Vampire-loving Kristen Stewart was recently photographed channelling Joan Jett with her cropped, inky locks. Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen had her blonde strands snipped into the rock-friendly cut last fall and now wears a fuller, grown out version. As teen trendsetters like Stewart and Momsen submit to the shears, all signs point to the imminent re-emergence of the shag. It’s a cut that can be tailored for nearly any facial shape, length and hair type. Plus it’s a natural evolution for clients with bobs. HOW-TO: Beverly Hills salon owner Jim Wayne says to use the “flat rapping” technique to get this look, which is blow-drying the hair messily around the head to get the piecey shagginess. Finish by lightly applying smoothing serum to the hair. I’ve tried the method and its the best way!
INSIDER TRICK“This works with a variety of lengths, from chin-length to past the shoulders,” says Wayne. “But it doesn’t work well with really curly or thick hair.” Don’t feel bad though my curly haired thick girls. You can blow dry in the same manner with a a paddle brush and use Cat Walks Fashionista Smooth and Shine as you dry. Next flat iron in the same direction you blow dried. You too can have this look 🙂
