My Pearl Jam moment would definitely have to be the 96 Grammy Award Show performance. We can’t all call ourselves “die hard fans” but hey they set the tone for grunge heyday rock and are still doin it with they ninth album titled “Backspacer”. Lead vocalist Vedder got the idea from the good ol’ typewriter button “backspacer” calling it a great invention and in a sense applying it  to the lyrics and wishing we could do the same in life. The 1st single in my opinion is incredible, upbeat, comeback muzik!

If you didn’t catch them live I’m sure it will be on 100 times tomorrow so make sure you tune in. Between Janet Jackson’s opening tribute to Michael Jackson performing  “SCREAM”,  Kanye stealing that little girls limelight (Taylor Swift-Congrats on best female video of the year by the way!), Lady Gaga’s freak show and Beyonce’s routine performance, the VMA’s are always full of surprises. The host, Russel Brand, was a different style “comedian/host” but I appreciated the fact he showed everybody LOVE in honor of our King MJ. Big up to Wale and his crew for doing their  thing during the breaks and the tribute to DJ AM. RIP!!! J Lo definitley wasn’t happy to announce Best Hip Hop video to Eminem. Slap Slap Slap! Jay z, Kanye. Really? Don’t get me wrong, Em is a great Emcee, BUT did anyone hear of Kanye THIS year??? Moving along, Lady Gaga takes best new artist. She’s so freaky but I enjoy watching her. Come on, you do too. Beyonce takes Video of the Year and calls Taylor Swift to the stage to have her moment. Beautiful, gracious, talented and humble. She rules!!! MAXWELL: THE BLACKSUMMER’S NIGHT TOUR

Last night Maxwell hit the stage in downtown Phoenix at The Dodge Theatre. Laura Izabor opened the show for him and in case you don’t know who she is, youtubethis girl. Her vocals were incredible. Withonly a mic, keyboard and her partner on the tambourine they warmed the crowd withherhit single “From my heart to yours.” Maxwell kicked the show off with his classic “Get to know ya” This was his 1st performance after Sunday night’s BET Awards. His magnetic sound was felt from the floor to the ceiling. The simple stage background, incredible live band, and his down to earth personality this show will be remembered for years to come in my life. He dedicated “A WomansWork” to Michael Jackson with words tweaked a bit to suit the occasion. “Till the cops come knockin” was my personal favorite of the night. He gave us an extended version with his band showing their artistry. We all felt “fortunate” to be where we were at that very moment. He is extremely talented and is one of the few artists who can step away from the lime light and step right back in as though he never left. Another special quality is his ability to involve his fans in his shows. From the screaming to the pantydropping, I had no idea the man had moves on the floor. You can tell he truly enjoys working with his incredible band and whole heartily enjoys performing. The music moved through himandthe vocals came effortlessly. “Pretty Wings” was an emotional moment and he closed the show out with his first hit single of 96′ “Ascension (Don’t ever wonder).” Experience of a lifetime. Album “BLACKsummers Night” drops next Tuesday and 2 more within the next 2 years. PICK IT UP! You won’t be disappointed.

BET MAKES HISTORY WITH THE 2009 BET AWARDS

In my eyes it was no accident this years BET Award fell on the Sunday after Michael Jackson’s passing. The night was filled w/recognition, praise, acknowledgment and LOVE for the legend and King of Pop. Celebrities mimicked Michael’s wardrobe throughout the night. Jamie Fox has enlightened my view on MJs death. He truly expressed how he paved the way for so many. From his wardrobe to his dancing and even his not so steady moon walking skills. I feel more at peace withhim being gone. Michael Jackson you are immortal.  Jamie also brought a ROCKIN performance w/Travis Braker on the drums (Kudos) to the awards this year. Congrats to him and T-Pain for winning Best callaboration w/J. Fox. and thank u for performing my favorite song of the year, “She got her own”. Keri Hilson: performance, four nominations and Best New Artist Award!!! She always has the perfect fit. The hair and the dance moves were all inspired by MJ.  She’s grown as an artist. Inspiring! Neyobrought tears to my eyes and filled my heart with joy when he sang “Lady in my Life” . To hear such a reminisant voice coming from a young performer was amazing . He snagged Best Male RnB artist, well deserved. Keri Hilson and NeYo are coming up in the game. Beyonce’s performed Ave Maria. Congrats on Best Female artist. Loved the segway to her hubby Jay. D.O.A. all day!!! Lil Wayne took Artist of the Year. Can I say I Love Mary Mary?  To see them on stage at the BET awards performing “God in Me” w/Queen Latifah makes me light up inside. NeYo introduced the pioneers of classic RnB KeithSweat, Guy, and BBD. This was a plus. Reminded me of my older sister Iris. Ciara in full fledged MJ Costume singing “Heal the World” was perfect. KieshaCole looked beautiful with Monica wearing Mike-like wardrobe. Lifetime Achievement awards went to The OJays this year.  Tevin Campbell, Johnny Gill, Tyrese and Trey Songz did a tribute to the historic band and I must say they got down! But The OJays proved they STILL got it. Beautiful outside and in Alicia Keys as well as Wyclef both were awarded Humanitarian Award. Wyclef last words were true. Dreams do come true! Amen to that. Video of the year went to Beyoncefor “Single Ladies.” Maxwell sang “Pretty Wings” then Drake, Lil Wayne and Young Money represented. The biggest surprise of the night was when Janet Jackson got up and expressed her thanks for the support her and the Jackson family are receiving. The most powerful event of the night. It was short but meaningful. Her courage and strength is amazing as the baby sister. Jamie Fox and NeYo made “I’ll be there” the final performance. BET you created a historic award show and tribute to our inspiration Michael Jackson in three days. Thank you BET staff, artists and everyone else who contributed to this incredible event. RIP Michael Jackson.

SAVING THE WORLD FROM WHACK CONCERTS 09

 

Mixed reviews on Hot 97 Summer Jam 2009 hosted by Tracy Morgan and Angie Martinez. They started withdeejay Mr. Cee on the turntables and surprise first performance from Day 26. Pleasure P. from Pretty Ricky performing one of my 2 favorite  R&B tracks right now “Boyfriend #2” (missing Luda tho) and “Lingerie.” Next up was Serani Movadoand Elephant Man in an attempt to get the crowd going but it wasn’t until Fabulous joined my man The Dream with his own live band playing “Shawty is a Ten” and “Rockin that Shit Remix” that the people started letting loose. Jada Kiss, The L.O.X. and Styles P. set the tone for Busta Rhymes and Spliff Starr to hit the stage. Swizz Beatz and Swizzy did their thangbefore the queen Mary J. Bligetook everybody down memory lane. “You’re all I need” withMethod Man was a major highlight to the show (sick)! Redman joined while marytook a break and returned to finish up withhits from the “Growing Pains” album. Jeezy, then Drake performed “Best I ever Had”. But it wasn’t till Jay-Z came on with his latest hit single “D.O.A.” that the 500,000 fans got hyphy. He definatly declared Hip Hop was sick of autotune and the crowd backed him up. Ironically T-Pain performed right after Hova. (oh yeah Souljah Boy was there too…)  Juelz Santana was second to last and Jim Jones was an embarrassment by performing “We Fly High” as the final song…..ouch! Heard he was cleared things out. Bret Michaels Smashed

 

While what seemed to be a rockin performance at last nights Tony Awards by  Bret Michaels, star of “Rock of Love”, he was wiped out by some stage scenery as the band Poison wrapped it up. They performed “Nothin’ But a Good Time” with the cast of “Rock of Ages,” and as Michaels exited the stage you can see him getting squashed. Diagnosis: Fractured nose and a bruised ego. Make sure you have good insurance old rockers. Can’t miss your cue. Youtube never fails me. Here’s the close up.

SADE IS GONNA DO IT AGAIN

 

Known for her long delays between releases, Sade and the group that bears her name are in the studio. Although Sony has not set a release date, the label hopes the record will be out by the end of 2009. Maxwell who also has taken his time working on this trilogy release is said to have heard snippets of Sade’s new muzik. , “Trust me, it’s so monolithic it’ll shake you in your shoes!” he said on a message via facebook.

“She is in the studio and the album will come when it is ready,” a source at Sony told Billboard. “You don’t wait for years for one and then rush it.”

IT WAS ALL A FRONT

 

During last week’s MTV Movie Awards, Eminen walked out of the show with an outraged look on his face after comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (dressed as his new film’s character Bruno) came down from the ceiling, with his rear end fully exposed, and landed on Mr. Mathers‘ lap. The shows producer’s caught the stunt and images of Cohen’s rear end in Em’s face hit the net soon after. Although Slim Shady stormed out in anger, many thought the stunt was planned. Still, the speculation had some believing Emmay not have been in on the matter. Here’s what he had to say…a lil gay in my opinion but you gotta sell records right artists? Ha!

“Sacha called me when we were in Europe and he had an idea to do something outrageous at the movie awards.  I’m a big fan of his work so I agreed to get involved with the gag. I’m thrilled that we pulled this off better than we rehearsed it.  It had so many people going ‘nuts’ so to speak. Everyone was blowing me up about it.” After the ceremony I went back to my hotel and laughed uncontrollably for about three hours. Especially after I saw it on air.”

Yeah, he sounds like he feels stupid bout doing it after he watched it and now he just saying it was funny. Don’t know too many men that would be koo with that, but hey to each is own…after watchin the tape a few times I realized Ems actingsskills still are not that great. COMING FROM LEFT FEILD: DRAKE

June 5th

Previously known for his role on “Degrassi”  the 22 year old new comer from Toronto is shaking things up. “Best I Ever Had” is drowning the airwaves and clubs. Girls love him guys want to be him. Move over Chris Brown! Rhi Rhi’s focused on a new Hottie. Not binded to a label there are rumors that he might end up with  and 2 million dollar bonus if he signs with Island records. An unauthorized album, “The Girls Love Drake,” which features selections from Drake’s mixtape “So Far Gone”the tracks, was released May 28 by a label called Canadian Money Entertainment and distributed by the Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) on iTunes, Rhapsody and Amazon. Things are still up in the air but by God does the boy got options. Here are my 2 FAVORITE TRACKS off the tape just to school you main streamers. The kid’s got content at his age.  There is plenty to come from this youngen so don’t doubt him. Lots of collaborations  in the works.  Gotta give it up.

Now before I go on, I must say that I used to be a huge Trey Songz fan back in the day. Jay Z Can’t Stop

It looks like Jay-Z will release “The Blueprint 3? on the seventh anniversary of original “Blueprint’s” release and I can’t wait!!!  The rapper’s latest CD is expected to hit stores on September 11th. Billboard says they have confirmed the release through multiple sources after an Atlantic Records executive posted the news on his Twitter page Wednesday. “The Blueprint 3? will reportedly be distributed by Atlantic, with the album falling under Jay’s recently-created RocNationlabel. An official announcement on the matter is expected to come Sunday. Jay-Z recently paid Universal Music Group/Island Def Jam five-million dollars for the rights to “The Blueprint 3,” which was to be his last under the label. Last year, the rapper signed a 360-deal with Live Nation for 150-million dollars.

 Hot 97 debuted this track tonight “D.O.A.”  & with the direction hip-hop has taken lately, Jigga goes in for battle. Listen up Soulja Girl.

In Yo Face Em

Marshall Mathersaka Eminem had a crash landing 69 style on last nights MTV movie awards by Sascha Baron Cohen. Since Baron Cohen’s latest character is the flamboyantly gay, fashion reporter “Bruno,” it is likely that Eminem was targeted not only because so much attention was turned toward the “Relapse” performer, but because of Eminem’s reputation of the “tough guy” homophobe. The net and blogs are heated up with assumptions on whether  this was scripted or not. Ive reviewed the video several different times and in MY personal opinion I do believe Sascha and MTV were aware of what was about to literally go down on Em’s face but I dont think the King of mockery had any idea. I would have expected a little more of reaction from Em other than the “what the *&^%” but tweet rumor has it that altercation was much worse than what we the viewers got. In my opinion dude should have caught a beat down of a life time. Had they teabagged the Jonas sisters there would have been a completely different reaction. Check it out.

THE DREAM and Christina Milian Tying the Knot…Say it isn’t So!!!

As much as I hate to speak it into exsitance along with my fellow bloggers its true…the “Radio Killah” is ready to wife up Christina Milian. After multiple denials by Ms. Dip it Low pictures clearly show that the rumor is true. Hold up, let me wipe my nose. Okay. They were spotted vacationing in Hawaii clearly happy and engaged. The grapevine also tells us that  the night he gave the ring to her it was too big. So The Dream Man made it his mission to have it fitted for her ring finger so she can rock it at dinner with their friends. Damn, so sad I missed my chance.
