I will be the first to admit I am sickly obsessed with BIG HAIR. Beehives, french twist, high rise pony tails, and bouffants. Fat hair is my weakness. And its no surprise that the 80’s has not only inspired fashion today but hair as well. Before I go on I would just like to say that I’m writing this so we can all be aware of what the world is seeing. So here’s a little lesson on hair teasing/back combing in order to give limp, flat hair a boost. I am noticing that some of you are going a tad over board and perhaps not even taking a look in the mirror at the back once you’re “finished” styling. Lets get through this step by step:
1. Shampoo and condition your hair. It is good to use a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove build up and residue. Then apply a mousse or volumizing gel and comb through.
2. Blowdry your hair in sections, lifting the round brush at scalp and overdirectiong. This creates volume at the root.
3. Take a 1 inch thick section at the top of the head and with rat tail comb begin to push comb down close to scalp, pull out and repeat till you work your way to the ends. Focus on keeping comb close to the base of head.
4. Take finishing brush and gently smooth over top layers gently without combing out the teasing.
5. Spray and lock in style with a firm hold hair spray.
The secret is step 4. Smoothing over the back combing. If you don’t do this you will be walking around with a birds nest on top of your head. Dont be the victim.
I have found my best friend in smoothing after back combing to be: Aquage Finishing Brush $22 @ Ulta
Half natural boar bristles to give shine and half plastic to smooth out.
We all can have vulptious hair, teased up and still be sexy. Once you’ve teased the hair you have now created a base and the possibilities in different styles are endless. You can wear down with tons of volume. Or lift, pin up and poof out in minutes. Just remember, SMOOTH, SMOOTH, SMOOTH!
Ahhh….I’m glad I got that off my chest.
